The Da Vinci Code

One of the most controversial fiction of all time has make it way to the silver screen. Helm by Ron Howard (The Beautiful Mind) as a Director, The Da Vinci Code starrer Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Jean Reno and Sir Ian McKellen promised a mighty deliver as true to the book. As the book itself page turning story, movie pundits expect it to be happenning as the book, but then again, this Hollywood adapting it. Shot most in location like Italy and around Europe, we will travel with Robert Langdon to crack the Da Vinci code and unveil the biggest lie in human history.
If you have yet to read the book, i suggest don't! Please don spoil yourself. :P
Yahoo! recently has an exclusive look at the first long trailer of the movie. And I'm glad that I would share it with you guys.

The Devil Wears Prada

I'm a big fan of chic-lit. Don't asked me why, but somehow or rather I enjoyed read them. This year, one of my favourite chic-lit book will be brought to silver screen. Helm by David Frankel, this movie stars Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep and based on a book by Lauren Weisberger under the same title. The story is about a young woman from a small town trying to survive her most demanding new boss, fashion editor Miranda Priestly. Schedule to be release in 30th June 2006.

Remember, Remember 5th of November...

This is one of the movie that I did not expected to enjoy. Despite low key promo material about this movie, I decided to check it out last night with Adrian and Ivan.
Looking back, the first time I heard about this movie when it premier and created a buzz in one of the most established film festival in Europe. Altho before that I've seen the explosive trailer about the movie, but I said to myself this just a marketing gimmicks. Good trailer, bad movie.
Anyway, as the lights off and all eyes on the big screen, we brought back to history on 5th November 1605 where Guy Fawkes try to blew the British Parliments. And then fast forward, we were in London in the year 2020, where government rule with barter trade. Protect citizen from bioweapons and mass of desctructions machine or else you will harm (literally). We introduced to Evey one night and she was walking at the London street as the curfew started. Stopped by the police but the police trying to take advantage the situation. And so our hero, V rescued her.
As the plot goes on, we drawn to what i called movie-provoke-my-brain. Issues that raised in the movie such as dictatorship, gay-bashing, Islam-hating issues does provoke your mind. I do understand why a government in any country around the world would be taking a precaution if this movie released in their country as this can create spark goverment-hate issues. I won't spoil the rest of the plot as you have to watch it for yourself.
Through entire movie, Natalie Portman (Evey Hammond) alongside big cast such Hugo Weaving and John Hurt, gave A+ performance. Written by Wachowski Brothers (The Matrix Trilogy), and directed by James McTeigue (who also first assistant director in Matrix rilogy), V for Vendetta flies on a rhythm all its own. There's nothing Neo about V, the masked avenger who uses bombs, daggers and his telegenic charisma to take down a regime that has left him a burned remnant of its ungodly experiments.
"Mad as hell and out to rile up a politically lethargic youth audience, V for Vendetta sometimes trips on its ambitions. But who gives a damn? At least this grabber of a movie actually has ambitions, which makes it unique in a brain-dead multiplex. Better yet, V packs an urgent filmmaking energy that pins you to your seat.." Peter Travers, The Rolling Stone
Starring: Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving, James Purefoy, Stephen Rea, John Hurt, Tim Piggot Smith, Sinead Cusack
Directed by : James McTeigue

Vroom Vroom

'Cars' is probably one of the most anticipated animation for 2006 beside Ice Age 2: Melt Down. However no much hype about this movie here in Malaysia, at least not yet. When it hit our shores, I could sense a lot of marketing promotion will be taking over. Plus, who doesn't want to endorse such a big time movie with cute talking cars. Yes, you heard me, talking cars! This is first collaboration between Disney Studio with Pixar Animation. Two largest animation company.

With the recent news about this movie that it would be stage it world premier at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 26th, 2006 and will be one of the most unique and elaborate movie events of all-time. The screening of the film represents the first multi-screen digital cinema premiere ever, with Texas Instruments and its DLP Cinema® technology serving as Disney's event technology partner in providing the digital cinema projectors. A series of four giant custom-built outdoor movie screens (115-feet wide and 50-feet tall) will be constructed at Lowe's Motor Speedway at Turn #2 of the track. Each screen will have three DLP Cinema 2K digital projectors dedicated to it. A state-of-the-art sound system is also being created and installed for the event (fuyohhh.. i want to see something like this in Malaysia).
What is this 'Cars' all about?
Lightning McQueen (voiced by OWEN WILSON), a hotshot rookie race car driven to succeed, discovers that life is about the journey, not the finish line, when he finds himself unexpectedly detoured in the sleepy Route 66 town of Radiator Springs. On route across the country to the big Piston Cup Championship in California to compete against two seasoned pros, McQueen gets to know the town's offbeat characters -- including Doc Hudson (a 1951 Hudson Hornet with a mysterious past, voiced by PAUL NEWMAN), Sally (a snazzy 2002 Porsche voiced by BONNIE HUNT), and Mater (a rusty but trusty tow truck voiced by LARRY THE CABLE GUY) -- who help him realize that there are more important things than trophies, fame and sponsorship. The all-star vocal cast also includes free-wheeling performances by Tony Shalhoub, Michael Keaton, Cheech Marin, George Carlin, Katherine Helmond, and John Ratzenberger. Delivering more fun and authenticity to the cast for 'Cars' are vocal performances from some of the all-time greatest names from the racing world including the legendary Richard Petty, plus "drive-on" roles by Mario Andretti, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Darrell Waltrip (who holds the record for five-wins at the NASCAR Coca Cola 600), and Michael Schumacher (yup, u read that right), the ace German Formula 1 racing legend, who is a seven-times world champion, and is widely considered to be the best Grand Prix racing driver of all-time.

First Look on Casino Royale

This is the first look of movie still picture at Mr Suave James Bond's 21st film Casino Royale. With so much criticise about Mr Daniel Craig being casted as the double 07 which does not met any James Bond criteria, proved 'em wrong. Judging by this the pic, this man has charisma that would bring out Mr Bond in certain sexiness and also he look better than Pierce Brosnan. More suave i must say.. my opinion.

And the Oscar goes to...

The 78th Annual Academy Awards was held last Sunday at Kodak Theatre. It was night to remember and celebrate. There is no major sweep winner this year, however, the members of the academy felt that Best Motion Picture should be awarded to Crash instead of Brokeback Mountain. Ang Lee was awarded Achievement in Directing category. Well, traditionally, very rare Academy awarded Best Motion Picture and Achievement in Directing to the same film.
Best Actor in Leading role category however saw a race among the most talented new breed of actor but then it was awarded to Philip Seymour Hoffman form Capote and Best Actress in Leading Role goes to Reese Whiterspoon from Walk The Line to which I think Felicity Huffman deserved this award. George Clooney won for Preformance by an Actor in Supporting Role for Syriana and Rachel Weisz won Performance by an Actress in Supporting Role in The Constant Gardener.
As the Best Song goes to Three 6 Mafia 'It's Hard out There For A Pimp' from Hustle & Flow, Brokeback Mountain won best Original Score.
