Fearless

Fearless is the story of Fok Yuen-gap (Huo Yuan-jia), a national hero in China and master arts master at the beginning of the 20th century, who early on experiences the dark, vengeful side of wushu. He eventually rises to embrace its more positive side by taking on some of the world's greatest fighters in a sporting competition that takes place at a time when a distressed China is being encroached upon by foreign powers.

Lo Wei used this story as inspiration for his movie Fist of Fury (1972) where Bruce Lee played a fictional student of Fok Yuen-gap, who seeks revenge for his master's death. Twenty-four years later, Li took on the same fictional role in Fist of Legend. Now he's playing the master.

Ronnie Yu (The Bride with White Hair) directs and Yuen Wo-ping is action director. The movie's subject matter is familiar territory for Yuen. He directed Legend of a Fighter (1982), a kung fu classic about the life of Fok Yuen-gap starring Leung Far-yan.
This latest action flick by Jet Li, perhaps his last martial arts movie. The idea behind the production of this movie after a recent studies revealed the number of suicide rate among youth in China has increasing. Jet Li wanted to inspire the youth how to live their live with the strong spirit, very much like Hou Yuan Jia did in his lifetime.
My comments:
1. Weak stroyline
2. Weak characterization
3. Good fighting sequences
Rating: 3.5 out of 5

The Constant Gardener

This movie has 4 nominations for 78th Annual Academy Awards including Best Actress in Supporting Role for Rachel Weisz.
Based on the best-selling John le Carré novel and from the Academy Award-nominated director of "City of God." In a remote area of Northern Kenya, activist Tessa Quayle (Rachel Weisz) is found brutally murdered. Tessa's companion, a doctor, appears to have fled the scene, and the evidence points to a crime of passion. Members of the British High Commission in Nairobi assume that Tessa's widower, their mild-mannered and unambitious colleague Justin Quayle (Ralph Fiennes), will leave the matter to them. They could not be more wrong. Haunted by remorse and jarred by rumors of his late wife's infidelities, Quayle surprises everyone by embarking on a personal odyssey that will take him across three continents. Using his privileged access to diplomatic secrets, he will risk his own life, stopping at nothing to uncover and expose the truth - a conspiracy more far-reaching and deadly than Quayle could ever have imagined.

Breakfast on Pluto

Set in the 1970's, Breakfast on Pluto follows the exploits of Patrick Braden (Murphy), an endearing, but deceptively tough young man. Abandoned as a baby in his small Irish hometown and aware from a very early age that he is different, Patrick survives this harsh environment with the aid of his wit and charm, plus a sweet refusal to let anyone and anything change who he is.
Directed by Neil Jordan(The Crying Game, Interview With A Vampire and The End Of The Affair), he weaves a wonderfully surreal and magical tale to bring us this funny, moving and poignant rites of passage account of a young man enduring the trials and tribulations he faces with a smile and unwavering faith in the inherent goodness in us all.

Starring: Cillian Murphy, Liam Neeson, Ruth Negga, Laurence Kinlan, Stephen Rea, Brendan Gleeson

Director: Neil Jordan
